Nicholas Abbott 4.4.84 – 19.3.06 |
The Good Friday evening performance of Mozart's Requiem Mass at St George's Cathedral was dedicated to the memory of Nicholas Abbott, a third-year B.Mus (Composition) student at the SA College of Music at UCT. Nicholas, a talented musician and gifted young composer, died tragically four weeks ago at the age of 21 as a result of a fall while climbing Table Mountain. Nicholas attended many events at the Cathedral and would undoubtedly have attended the Requiem Mass.
In consultation with friends and Prof. Peter Klatzow at the SACM, the family has established the Nicholas Abbott Award for Composition, to be awarded annually to a student who has excelled in composition studies.
